The story of Israel is filled with irony and tragedy. Despite their zeal for God, Israel fell short of the goal for which they strove while the Gentiles attained it without even striving for it. What has made the difference between the two is the arrival of Israel's Messiah, sent to do what Israel's prophets said he would do. But it was the Gentiles, rather than the Jews, who believed him and have been made into the promised holy priesthood of God.
