The Judges: Save Us from Ourselves

The book of Judges relates Israel's history immediately after the nation took possession of the Promised Land under Joshua. Failing to completely drive out the hostile nations, we read of Israel's recurring struggles against foreign opposition. Time after time God sent someone to rescue his people, but the deliverance was always short lived and Israel was soon in need of rescue again. This vicious cycle serves to demonstrate that the real source of our problems is the tendency to do what is right in our own eyes, and that the real solution to our problems is a Deliverer who can save us from ourselves.
