Malachi • God's Messenger Through the Centuries
Malachi 4:1-6

The book of Malachi comes to a close with a discussion of the coming “day of the Lord,” a time of final judgment where the ultimate distinction between the righteous and the wicked will become evident to all. On that day the wicked will be consumed while the righteous will be healed. The wicked will perish while the righteous will leap like calves released from their stalls. The day of the Lord will be terror to the wicked but triumph for the righteous. And God promises to show us the path to righteousness by sending “Elijah” before the day of the Lord comes.

Malachi • God's Messenger Through the Centuries

Series Description

Malachi is the final book in the Old Testament and was the final prophetic voice of God until John the Baptist came some 400 years later. Malachi’s prophecy was given to the nation of Israel following their return home after a 70 year captivity in Babylon. Hopes for a return to pre-captivity prosperity were not panning out, however, and God sent Malachi to inform the people of his unceasing love for them. But he also pointed out the real source of Israel’s problems and the real solution to the sin that continued to plague them, and it is this message from God that continues to be proclaimed to us down through the centuries.
